With interior design in the home becoming just as popular as fashion in clothes there are now more products than ever that help people create a look that’s individual to their personality. There are many different products now that are specially designed for certain interior design schemes. Some of these different products include:
- Lamps and light fittings
- Mirrors
- Glass ware
- Wall clocks
Each kind of product has individual style such as contemporary or the specific interior design style in mind. Ways in which you can use things such as lighting to contribute to the design of your room are:
- If there are corners that are darker than others then it may be an idea to get some low voltage lighting for those areas as having dark areas in a room can make the whole room look a lot smaller. They also create a warm atmosphere which can affect the whole mood of the room making it more relaxed than it may feel with brighter lighting.
- The colour of the light also affects the look of the whole room for example incandescent lighting in a room looks good at night time but doesn’t during the day so instead a halogen lighting system looks better in both and instead of the light feeling and looking as artificial it creates a more natural light.
- When fitting wall sconces the fittings that sit over the actual light should diffuse the light to give a more natural feel to the light there are several ways in which you can diffuse light for example with glass – this creates a diffusion but also lets a large portion of the light through where as with paper a lot of the light is diffused so there fore giving a much gentler feel to the room.
- If the room has pieces of art that contribute greatly to the design (for example in the case of Art Nouveau) then recessed lighting works great at highlighting these pieces. They can also be used for general lighting to create a gentle light in a room and as they have no hang down you need not think about what kind of shade/diffusion to have.
- There are also lighting systems in which you can light up the out side of your house so the light shines in. for example if you got some lights for out side that you place inside bushes or other types of large plant then the light is diffused by the plant but enough light still gets into the room to provide light in the evenings.
